“He Just Missed”- Frustrated Kyle Shanahan Refuses To Shield Brock Purdy Despite The QB Throwing Only 3 Interceptions All Season

One bad day does not make a bad season. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan stands by it, even after being in one of the toughest spots for this season. Giving an appearance in the post-game interview, Shanahan spoke about the aftermath of the loss against the 3-4 Vikings, along with updates on their players. However, Shanahan, being the head coach, let his players take ownership of their actions on the field, good or bad.

In a post-game conference, the Miner’s head coach let people have their opinions about the QB Purdy. Knowing the fact that Purdy is still a rookie, and does not have much experience in the ‘sour comments’ department, let him have a taste. “He just missed. I thought on the first one to Jauan, he just missed the throw. I thought he just sailed it a little bit inside, had Jauan right there,” asserted Shanahan.

Purdy finished the game with 272 yards and a touchdown and 21 successful catches out of 30 on MNF. These numbers were not the problem, his two interceptions were. Moreover, an even bigger issue for Shanahan was both interceptions coming from a single player, Vikings safety Camryn Bynum. The rookie QB, when asked about it, gave an unexpected answer.

Even though the head coach did not shield away the QB, he sure wasn’t going to criticize one of the best players on his team. “The second one, and then they’re soft as can be, going down without any timeouts,” said Shanahan. “And he tried to lob it over a guy who was really deep, and it looked like the guy climbed the ladder and made a hell of a play.” Now that’s what you call a clever coach!
