Windhorst: LeBron James Is ‘Basically Already Negotiating’ a $50 Million Contract with the Lakers
At the conclusion of the 2023–24 season, LeBron James will be a free agent, but don’t expect him to leave.
The Los Angeles Lakers are where James will end his career, according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, who also stated that James is “basically already negotiating for his contract.”
Regarding James’ future, Windhorst stated on Get Up, “I do and I think that he definitely left the door open, especially in wake of the talks between the Lakers and the Warriors about a trade there.” And that’s just who he is. In a sense, he has already begun contract negotiations. He has another season to choose to not renew his contract and sign a new multiyear agreement. He has the option to reject additional offers and opt out of his contract.
You might recall that he was displeased with the Lakers’ lack of action during the trade deadline two years ago. He visited Cleveland over All-Star weekend and declared he would not rule out returning there. After much agitation, he signed a two-year contract extension a few months later. He therefore enjoys performing in LA. He enjoys playing for $50 million year, which would allow him to continue living in Los Angeles. And I believe that’s where he will finally be.”
