Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens player join Dallas cowboys today with good intentions
I believe this is the best coaching staff the Ravens have had since the early 2,000’s, I believe this is the best offensive coaching staff the Ravens have ever had. Todd Monken is 58 years old and I’m not worried that anyone will try to poach him this off-season, however I’m a little worried that a few teams will try to poach Mike MacDonald. But at the same time that was Brandon Staley a few years ago, we are seeing more and more teams go after offensive minded HC’s.
There are 4 coaches that I believe had a huge impact on the development of some of our players, I can’t remember the last time we had this many young players go from average starters to Pro-Bowl level players.
Dennard Wilson- Wilson was the Eagles secondary coach last year, they finished 1st in turnovers and the #1 passing defense in the league. This year the Eagles are bottom 5, and one of the worst defenses in the league. The Ravens hire Wilson and this year, over the last few years only established veterans played well in our secondary. This year Kyle Hamilton made the Pro-Bowl and will be 1st team ALL-PRO, Geno Stone went from solid starter/good backup to being 2nd in the NFL in INT’S. Stone should have made the Pro-Bowl, Brandon Stephens went from being an average starter. To playing at a Pro-Bowl level, and has been our best, most consistent CB all year. IMO Stephens is a top 12 CB right now. We have also seen some development in Jayln Armour-Davis, he has played well when called upon. That doesn’t even count veterans like Ronald Darby and Arthur Maulet that hadn’t played well over the last few years, however both have played well under Wilson. The Ravens have the best, deepest and most versatile secondary in the NFL.
Chuck Smith- 60 sacks are the most the Ravens have had in a decade, Justin Madubuike with 13 sacks. Jadeveon Clowney with 9.5 sacks, Kyle Van-Noy with 9 sacks. Odafe Oweh with 5 sacks, not to mention older veterans like Van-Noy having career highs in sacks, Brent Urban with a career high, Broderick Washington, Kyle Hamilton, and several other players having career highs or matching their career best.
Zach Orr- Roquan Smith has been a top 5 ILB for several years now, but always 2nd team ALL-PRO. Under Orr, Roquan has been 1st team ALL-PRO since joining the Ravens and IMO the best ILB in the league. Patrick Queen went from solid starter, to making his first Pro-Bowl and a top 10 ILB. The Ravens have the best ILB duo in the NFL.
Greg Lewis- While alot has been made of KC seemly missing Eric Bienemy on the offensive side of the ball. The biggest issue in KC right now is how poorly the WR unit has played, leading the league in drops. Well KC won the Superbowl last year with almost the same WR unit, the biggest difference is Rashee Rice instead of Juju Smith-Schuster. Well their numbers essentially cancel each other out, they essentially put up the same numbers. Greg Lewis was hired this off-season, and we have seen an immediate difference. Zay Flowers broke Ravens rookie WR record in receiving yards, and has proven he is #1 WR material. Odell Beckham became a big play WR, averaging over 16 yards per catch. Rashod Bateman seems to be rounding into form, and Nelson Agholor looks the best he has looked in 4 years. Agholor also became a trusted Red-Zone target for Lamar Jackson. Going into next off-season, I absolutely feel very comfortable with Zay Flowers, Rashod Bateman and Tylan Wallace as the start of our WR unit. I see Eric Decosta bringing Agholor back on a team friendly deal, depending on if Eric Decosta can get Justin Madubuike sign to a long-term or Madubuike gets the franchise tag. I absolutely believe Eric Decosta will end up taking another WR rounds 2nd- 5th. Likely a big bodied, X- type WR.
Of Joe D is the best O-line coach in the NFL, I love the development this year of Ben Cleveland. I think Cleveland will make a Ben Powers type of jump next year, plus I think RG is his most natural position. I think we will see Big Sala and Andrew Vorhees battle it out for the LG spot. Tyler Linderbaum is a Pro-Bowler in year 2 and a top 4 Center. Morgan Moses is having his best season, and I think will be even better next year. I believe Ronnie Stanley will get healthy this off-season and bounce back to have a Pro-Bowl year. The Ravens will draft a young LT to develop, but the Ravens will have a top 5 o-line again next year. The Ravens are set up to be even more dominant next year.
