“Malik Reneau Should Remain for Hoosiers”: Fans and the Entire Indiana Hoosiers Basketball Community React to Malik Reneau’s Portal Transfer….

    adminBy adminMarch 27, 2025No Comments2 Mins Read

The Indiana Hoosiers basketball community is in turmoil following junior forward Malik Reneau’s decision to enter the transfer portal. Reneau, who led the team with 13.3 points per game this season, announced his intention to transfer just hours after Indiana introduced Darian DeVries as the new head coach.

In a heartfelt message on social media, Reneau expressed gratitude towards the Indiana coaching staff and fans:

    > “I want to thank Coach Woodson and his entire staff for giving me an opportunity to play at Indiana. I will miss the fans and all the great people in Bloomington.”

The announcement has elicited a range of reactions from fans and the broader Hoosiers community. Many supporters have taken to social media to voice their disappointment, emphasizing Reneau’s pivotal role in the team’s offense and expressing concerns about the impact of his departure on the program’s future. Some fans have started online petitions and campaigns urging Reneau to reconsider his decision, highlighting his importance to the team’s success.

Conversely, some understand Reneau’s choice, especially in light of the recent coaching change and the team’s underwhelming performance, which included missing the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive year and the mid-season resignation of former head coach Mike Woodson.

Reneau’s departure is part of a broader trend of player exits from Indiana. Alongside Reneau, sophomore guard Gabe Cupps has also entered the transfer portal. Additionally, key players such as Oumar Ballo, Trey Galloway, and Anthony Leal are among those leaving the program, with several others, including Mackenzie Mgbako, likely transferring.

As the Hoosiers navigate this period of transition, the focus shifts to how Coach DeVries will address these roster changes and work to rebuild the program. The Indiana basketball community remains hopeful that the team can overcome these challenges and return to its storied success.
