For good reason, the adage “the rich get richer” could apply to a recent free agent acquisition made by the Kansas City Chiefs.
Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, a free agency wide receiver, and the Chiefs were able to reach an agreement on a $7 million, one-year contract.
The Baltimore Ravens chose Brown in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Brown gives Kansas City’s offense a deadly burst of speed that it hasn’t had since Tyreek Hill was dealt to the Miami Dolphins in 2022.
Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin explained on Friday why, in his opinion, the Chiefs’ offense is now more “dangerous” with Brown on the field going into the upcoming campaign (via Undisputed on Twitter).
Browns averaged 12.1 yards per reception and caught 21 touchdowns in his first three NFL seasons as a member of the Ravens.
Although he wasn’t a part of one of the top offenses in the desert throughout his tenure there, his play did decline a little over the last two years as an Arizona Cardinal.
Now that he’s a member of the Chiefs, Brown gets to catch passes from one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, Patrick Mahomes.
Since Hill was traded in 2022, Kansas City has been looking for a consistent downfield threat, and Brown may be the man to fulfill this need.
The Chiefs will try to win their third consecutive championship next season after winning the previous two Super Bowls, and their most recent free-agent acquisition undoubtedly increases their chances of doing so.
