The Buffalo Bills have traded wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans in exchange for NFL Draft compensation, which means the Pittsburgh Steelers can cross one name off their list of possible trade possibilities.
Diggs was a name the Steelers should have kept an eye on because he was supposed to be up for grabs throughout the summer. According to reports, Pittsburgh “explored” the wide receiver trade market in recent weeks, raising the possibility that Diggs was a potential target.
Although there wasn’t as much of a link as there was with Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers, it was still a name that fans and the media were talking about.
George Pickens is the starting wide receiver for the Steelers right now, with Calvin Austin, Quez Watkins, Van Jefferson, and Cordarrelle Patterson filling in as backups. They’ve researched potential NFL Draft picks at the position, and right now in the offseason, it might be their best choice.
Although it seems improbable, a trade for Aiyuk is still possible because San Francisco general manager John Lynch has stated the organization is attempting to extend him. With Diggs going to Houston and Aiyuk staying with the 49ers, it seems that Pittsburgh’s alternatives have disappeared.
