Earlier today, October 13, in Portugal, the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Saudi Arabia played an international friendly that ended in a draw.
At the Estádio Municipal de Portimão, the friendly match was hotly contested, with the Saudi team just missing out on an upset.
The Super Eagles controlled the first half of the match and had numerous opportunities, but they were unable to convert them.
Salman Al-Faraj’s goal in the 60th minute of the second half gave Saudi Arabia the lead despite the Nigerian squad having numerous opportunities.
The Saudi national football squad, led by former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini, found it difficult to hold onto their narrow lead after the first goal.
To make matters worse for them, Nigeria tied the score in the 73rd minute through an own goal by Abdulelah Al-Amri. Kelechi Iheanacho gave the Super Eagles the lead for the first time in the game in the 81st minute.
Sadly, Mohamed Kanno’s equalizer in the 100th minute proved to be too much for the Nigerian squad to hold onto till the very end of the match.
By the end of the match, Saudi Arabia had four shots, three of which were on goal, and 53 percent of the possession. Nigeria finished the friendly match with a 2-2 draw despite having 47 percent of the ball possession and five of their 15 shots were on goal.
