Former Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been offered a way out from Manchester City to Real Madrid.
This is according to Central Defense, who report that City and Phillips are exploring potential destinations for January, with Real Madrid having been offered the chance to sign him through intermediaries.
Phillips is almost certain to leave the treble-winning side when the window reopens in January, with regular minutes continuing to be a struggle for him since moving from Leeds.
The 27-year-old was told he would be allowed to leave this summer, but chose to stay and fight for his place, a decision that ultimately backfired.
Although Rodri missed two matches due to suspension, Phillips has yet to start a Premier League match this season.
He also only started twice last season, both after Man City were crowned champions.
Phillips is in desperate need of regular playing time this season as he looks to cement his place at the heart of Gareth Southgate’s midfield.
European Championship next summer in Germany.
He continues to be a relatively consistent figure for England despite his lack of playing time at club level, although Phillips knows that will have to change.
According to reports, Man City are looking to sell Phillips for around £50m, which would represent a profit on the £42m spent to bring him in from Leeds.
However, although Real Madrid have been offered the chance to sign him, it seems unlikely they will spend anywhere near the asking price.
In fact, this is probably a blessing for Phillips, as Madrid’s midfield competition is said to be even fiercer than Man City’s.
Jude Bellingham, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni and Federico Valverde are all options in Carlo Ancelotti’s engine room.
