Columbus, Ohio — Following the departure of running backs coach Tony Alford for Michigan, a few Ohio State football players responded in their social media posts with bewilderment and rage.
It wasn’t until Friday that the team’s most seasoned running back publicly declared his intentions. TreVeyon Henderson raised his voice, but his tone was friendlier.
Henderson posted a message on X along with four images of himself and Alford together.
Henderson wrote, “So grateful that God allowed us to cross paths, Coach.” “Coach, God has you. I love you.”
Henderson, a five-star prospect from Hopewell, Virginia, who ranks in the top 25 in the 2021 class, was recruited by Alford. Over the course of three seasons, they experienced many highs and lows, including Henderson’s impressive freshman debut, his issues with injuries in Year 2 and miscommunications with the coaching staff during them, and a surge in the second half of last season that included some of his greatest play to date.
Alford’s departure for their bitter rival during the second week of spring practice will likely cause some animosity among Ohio State supporters. Henderson made the decision to forgive. Henderson has talked extensively about the influence his faith had on his 2023 performance.
