QB Kenny Pickett of the Steelers is traded to the Eagles, making room for Russell W.Russell Wilson may now start after the Steelers traded quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Eagles, according to sources.
Russell Wilson has the official support of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Multiple rumors state that the organization is sending former starting quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a selection. The Eagles will get Pickett and a fourth-round selection this year, while the Steelers will receive two seventh-round picks in 2025 in addition to a third-round pick this year.
Wilson agreed to sign a one-year contract with the Steelers for the veteran minimum, or around $1.2 million, just five days before to this transfer. After officially dismissing him this week, the Denver Broncos will have to pay the remaining $39 million he owes for the 2024 season. This will finish his turbulent two-year career and result in a record $85 million dead cap charge.
The Steelers selected Pickett, 25, from Pitt with the 20th overall choice in the first round of the 2022 draft. Starting the previous two seasons, he commanded an attack that finished 28th in scoring (17.9 points per game), but he had trouble leading. Due to an ankle injury sustained late in the season, Pickett was benched by the team for the playoffs, opting to stay with Mason Rudolph, who was playing well.
This offseason, Pittsburgh appointed Arthur Smith, a former coach of the Atlanta Falcons, to lead the team.
Prior to signing Wilson this offseason, general manager Omar Khan and coach Mike Tomlin of the Steelers both supported Pickett.
At the NFL scouting combine, Khan stated, “I have complete faith in Kenny Pickett.” “There were undoubtedly some problems with the offense, and I’m looking forward to Arthur Smith’s influence on him.” I’m aware that Arthur has expressed optimism about Kenny, and I also know that they’ve spoken.
