Are Nike and Fanatics dropping the ball on MLB jerseys? Mariners players and fans outraged over subpar quality. Will things be fixed by Opening Day?

The troubling Nike/Fanatics jersey fiasco has reached a new low, at least for Fanatics. If you have not been paying attention to what is going on with the official on-field jerseys around baseball, then do I have some news for you. The jerseys are terrible, and it is not just me saying that. We have written on them before, and it has only gotten worse. Some Mariners players are even potentially staging silent protests over them.

Things have gotten so bad that even the Fanatics Twitter account even got duped. Michael Chavis, a non-roster invitee to Spring Training, posted his jersey to his Instagram page, and the internet went nuts. The “CH” and the “AVIS” in his nameplate are off, and not by a little bit. Also, the “1” and “0” in his number 10 are off-centered.

What is the low point you ask? Well, the official Fanatics Support Twitter account, not knowing that this is an OFFICIAL on-field jersey of a real MLB player. They responded with “Hey there, it looks like we dropped the ball on this one. Send me a DM so I can learn more about this! – Kyle” I am sure Kyle is learning a quick lesson on how fast the internet can take something and run.

It is not just Mariners players complaining about the quality, or lack thereof, of these new jerseys. MLBPA President Tony Clark made these comments to reporters earlier this week:

It is not just the Jerseys that are in question, either. Just look at this interview with Cal Raleigh from the Mariners’ official Twitter account. The pants are nearly see-through! What are we doing here, Fanatics and Nike? It is beyond pathetic that the quality of Major League uniforms has gotten to this level of bad. I am sure things will be fixed by Opening Day, and they better be. I, for one, will not be buying a new Jersey for the 2024 season. Not until this gets cleaned up. As always, Go Mariners!
