After hitting his head on the knee of a defender during last Sunday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks, Maxey left the court to get evaluated for a concussion. Initially, Maxey was cleared to return to the game. He finished the victory over the Mavs without any real setbacks. It wasn’t until Tuesday that Maxey started experiencing concussion symptoms. Heading into the matchup against the Brooklyn Nets, the Sixers downgraded Maxey’s playing status from available to out. They also sent him home to Philly to rest and recover. At that point, it became clear that Maxey was entered into the NBA’s concussion
The Sixers couldn’t put a definitive timeline on Maxey’s return to action. Playing it day-by-day, they started by ruling him out against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday. When the team returned to the court to take on the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday, Maxey was ruled out for the third game in a row.
There were positive signs that Maxey was trending in the right direction towards returning. Following Philly’s Friday morning shootaround, Maxey participated in a solo workout session. Later on, the veteran guard was seen partaking in a pregame workout. Unfortunately, he’s still waiting to be cleared from the concussion protocol on Saturday.
