LUBBOCK, TX – In a historic show of generosity and school pride, Texas Tech Red Raiders legend Marcus Coleman has announced a $17 million donation to support the much-anticipated renovation of Jones AT&T Stadium. This monumental gift ranks among the largest in the university’s athletic history and underscores Coleman’s enduring bond with his alma mater and its football tradition.

The $17 million contribution will help launch a series of major upgrades aimed at modernizing the iconic stadium, improving facilities for players and enhancing the game-day experience for fans. Renovation efforts are expected to begin later this year, with plans to revamp seating areas, expand training facilities, and incorporate state-of-the-art technology throughout the venue.

“This university shaped me both on and off the field,” Coleman said in a statement. “Giving back to a place that gave me so much is an honor. I want the next generation of Red Raiders to have the best facilities and support possible.”

Coleman, a standout defensive back for Texas Tech from 1992 to 1995, went on to enjoy a 10-year NFL career with the New York Jets, Houston Texans, and Dallas Cowboys. Known for his athleticism, leadership, and community involvement, he remains a revered figure among Red Raider fans and alumni.

Texas Tech University President Lawrence Schovanec praised the donation, calling it a transformative moment for the program.

“Marcus Coleman’s generosity is a testament to the strength of the Texas Tech community,” Schovanec said. “This gift will have a lasting impact on our football program, student-athletes, and the university as a whole. We are incredibly grateful for his commitment.”

The Jones AT&T Stadium, home to the Red Raiders since 1947, has undergone various updates over the years, but this latest renovation will be one of the most extensive in its history. The $17 million gift from Coleman will serve as a catalyst for further fundraising and construction efforts as Texas Tech continues to aim for national prominence in collegiate athletics.

Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt emphasized how crucial the renovation is to the future of the program.

“Our goal is to provide a world-class experience for our student-athletes and fans,” Hocutt said. “Thanks to Marcus Coleman’s incredible support, we’re one step closer to making that vision a reality. This is a game-changing moment.”

While official renderings and a timeline for completion have yet to be released, university officials confirm that construction will begin by the end of the year, with initial phases focusing on expanding player facilities and improving stadium accessibility.

Students, alumni, and fans have already taken to social media to thank Coleman and celebrate the announcement, expressing excitement about the program’s direction and renewed energy surrounding Texas Tech football.

With Marcus Coleman’s name now etched into the legacy of Jones AT&T Stadium in a whole new way, the Red Raiders are poised for a bold new chapter—both on the field and within the heart of their community.
