Updated Bears’ cornerback depth after Jaylon Johnson extension
The Chicago Bears are a team making lots of moves this off-season. They are looking to strengthen certain parts of their roster while making a huge decision at the quarterback position.
One key move that they’ve made so far is the extension of star cornerback Jaylon Johnson. On Thursday afternoon, we learned that he is getting an extension.
After requesting a trade last fall ahead of the trade deadline, the two sides worked things out and now he is set to be a Bear for a long time. The deal is for four years and worth $76 million. $60 million of it will be paid within the first three years and $43.8 million is guaranteed.
This is a great deal for the Bears. Their secondary is one of their greatest strengths and a corner like Johnson is a big reason why.

Jaylon Johnson is a top corner in the league at this point, and his four-year contract extension tells you what the Bears think of him. He’s now making $19 million per year, which is the top number at this position on the team. If he can continue to be an elite player over the next four years, the Bears have nothing to worry about. Their secondary could be outstanding as a whole with him leading the way.
