The Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James surpassed Golden State Warrior shooting guard Klay Thompson on the NBA’s all-time three-pointers made list. James achieved the feat months after he surpassed legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the highest scorer of the NBA. James climbed up the ladder after the Lakers’ last clash against the Brooklyn Nets on January 20, Saturday (IST). In the match that ended with the Lakers registering an embarrassing defeat against the Nets 112-130, James registered two three-pointers to shift to an upper spot in the all-time 3-PM list.
The list is currently led by Stephen Curry with 3557 3-PM and 8350 3-PA recorded to his name. Before the Friday night game, Thompson occupied the seventh spot on the list with 2343 3-PM and 5654 3-PA but later slipped to the eighth spot. James, with 2344 3-PM and 6775 3-PA, now holds the seventh position on the list, which has Jason Terry in the 10th spot. While the three-pointers registered by the 39-year-old is more than Thompson, the latter continues to hold a higher 3-point percentage with 41.4%.
Lakers and Warriors’ struggle continues in 2023-24 season
Despite LeBron James’ rise in several NBA standings, the Los Angeles Lakers continue to suffer a slump in their performance. After winning the inaugural season of the NBA In-Season Tournament title, the Lakers saw an unexpected dip in the performance. Out of 40 matches they have played in the season, James’ side could only manage to win 18 of them and currently, sit at the 10th spot on the standings. Despite winning their back-to-back clashes against formidable teams like Oklahoma City Thunder and Dallas Mavericks, the Lakers went on to lose their next game against the Eastern Conference 11th-placed side, Brooklyn Nets.
Warriors, on the other hand, are currently on a two-game losing streak in the NBA 2023-24 regular season and are placed at the 12th spot in the Western Conference with an 18-22 record. The Warriors’ last two games against the Utah Jazz and the Dallas Mavericks were postponed due to the death of Assistant Coach Dejan Milojević’s death on Wednesday, January 24.
Apart from Stephen Curry (26.7 ppg), the Warriors stars have failed to deliver consistent performances as Klay Thompson is scoring 17.6 ppg on a 42.4 % shooting from the field followed by Jonathan Kuminga (13.6 ppg), and Andrew Wiggins (11.9 ppg). Chris Paul, who signed for the Golden State Warriors this season, has also failed to impact the game in his side’s favor as they have managed a .450 record in the 2023-24 regular season.
