Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Matt Turner will be absent from the USA squad for their friendly against Oman on Wednesday, after leaving the international camp.

The summer signing started in goal for the nation on Saturday, earning praise for his performance in a 3-0 friendly win vs Uzbekistan. His performance earned him the man of the match award.

But the country will have to turn to someone else to deputise between the sticks for the next game, with it pre-planned that Turner would leave the camp early. He will remain in the USA but has been given permission to travel to St Louis as his partner is due to give birth to the couple’s second child.

“It was a clear message from the boss back home that I needed to make sure that if I was going to come, that I was going to make it worth it,” Turner told the nation’s official channels following the win over Uzbekistan.

“A clean sheet and a win is all I could ask for. Now focused completely on the safe delivery of our baby girl into the world.”

Turner is expected back in England in time for Forest’s next Premier League game against Burnley in a week’s time. The goalkeeper has started all four league games since completing a move from Arsenal, keeping a clean sheet in his last outing vs Chelsea, but will now face competition for his place from former Benfica man Odysseas Vlachodimos who completed a deadline day move to the City Ground.
