A 73-year-old man has been arrested in Maharashtra’s Thane district for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl, according to police reports. The disturbing incident took place on August 9 in the Ambernath area, where the accused reportedly assaulted the girl in her own home when her family members were not present.
Authorities have revealed that the accused and the victim were acquainted with each other. According to the police, the man allegedly gagged the girl and raped her. To further silence her, he threatened to kill her if she disclosed the assault. The victim later reported the incident, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns over the safety of minors, even within familiar surroundings. The police have registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
