💔 LEFT A VOID THAT MAY NEVER BE FILLED! Crystal Palace’s standout player from last season is reportedly closing in on a £55m move to a European giant, with his former club set to receive around €1.3m through FIFA’s solidarity mechanism! 😱💰

Crystal Palace are expected to lose one of their most influential players this summer, with defender Maxence Lacroix reportedly closing in on a high-profile move to Chelsea following the conclusion of the FIFA Club World Cup.

The France international has enjoyed an outstanding spell at Selhurst Park, quickly establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most reliable central defenders. His commanding performances, pace and composure in possession have made him a key figure in Palace’s back line, attracting serious interest from several top clubs across Europe.

Chelsea now appear to have won the race for his signature, with French outlet L’Équipe reporting that the Blues are preparing to complete a deal worth €55 million once Lacroix’s international commitments come to an end. The move would represent another significant investment by Chelsea as they continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.

For Crystal Palace, the departure would leave a major gap in defence. Lacroix has been one of the club’s standout performers, providing consistency, leadership and athleticism throughout his time in South London. Replacing a player of his quality will be one of the biggest challenges facing the recruitment team during the remainder of the transfer window.

The transfer also carries financial benefits beyond the two clubs directly involved.

Lacroix began his football journey at Sochaux before moving on to establish himself at the highest level. As a result, his former club are set to benefit from FIFA’s solidarity payment system, which rewards clubs involved in a player’s development.

According to L’Est Républicain, Sochaux are expected to receive 2.5 per cent of the transfer fee, amounting to approximately €1.3 million.

The payment is due through “d’un mécanisme de solidarité mis en place par la FIFA”, ensuring clubs that played a role in a player’s development receive a share whenever major international transfers are completed.

The expected windfall will provide a welcome financial boost for Sochaux while highlighting the long-term value of developing young talent through their academy system.

For Palace supporters, however, attention will be focused on how the club responds. Losing a defender of Lacroix’s calibre would inevitably force the Eagles back into the transfer market in search of a suitable replacement before the Premier League campaign gets underway.

Manager Pierre Sage is expected to make defensive reinforcements one of his priorities if the move is completed, with several centre-backs already believed to be under consideration.

Although the transfer has yet to be officially confirmed, all indications suggest Lacroix’s time at Crystal Palace is drawing to a close. If the reported €55 million deal is finalised, it will mark one of the biggest outgoing transfers in the club’s recent history while handing Chelsea one of the Premier League’s most accomplished defenders heading into the new campaign.
