🚨 BREAKING: Crystal Palace FINALLY Make Their Decision on Maxence Lacroix After Tuesday Evening Announcement — A Move That Aligns with the Fans’ Verdict. Pierre Sage is the BEST

Chelsea’s pursuit of Maxence Lacroix has taken another interesting turn after Crystal Palace reportedly decided against taking two of the Blues’ defenders as part of discussions between the clubs.

Chelsea are keen to strengthen their defence this summer and have identified Lacroix as a priority target. During negotiations, the possibility of including players in the deal was explored as the Stamford Bridge club looked to reduce the overall transfer fee.

“Chelsea reportedly tried to offer Tosin Adarabioyo and Benoit Badiashile to Crystal Palace as makeweights to bring down the Lacroix fee. Palace said no. Not interested in either one, and instead they’re prioritising signing Charlie Cresswell from Toulouse over taking a Chelsea centre-back off our hands for what was essentially a discounted price.”

Palace are understood to be focused on recruiting Charlie Cresswell from Toulouse, with the England Under-21 defender emerging as the club’s preferred replacement should Lacroix complete his expected move to Chelsea.

The decision reflects the recruitment strategy being implemented under new head coach Pierre Sage, who is believed to favour younger players with significant long-term potential rather than experienced options already available elsewhere in the Premier League.

“Let that sink in properly. This isn’t a club rejecting Chelsea on financial terms or wage demands, this is Crystal Palace, a solid but unspectacular Premier League side, looking at two of our centre-backs and deciding a Toulouse defender they have to actually pay full price for is the better option. That’s not a small signal, that’s a brutal one. Tosin’s leadership qualities are real, he’s the kind of figure you want in a dressing room, but his one v one defending was genuinely poor last season and Premier League clubs have clocked it. Badiashile picks up far too many injuries and is capable of the kind of costly individual mistake that’s haunted Chelsea repeatedly, the exact defending that cost us Champions League qualification in the first place.”

Chelsea’s defensive department has become one of the biggest talking points heading into the new campaign.

A number of central defenders remain under contract, leaving the club with important decisions to make before the transfer window closes.

“Here’s the bigger issue though, Chelsea currently have 10 centre-backs on the books. Ten. That’s not depth, that’s a complete failure of squad planning over multiple windows, and it’s exactly the kind of bloated roster Alonso has to cut through fast if he wants this rebuild to actually mean something. If Palace, who aren’t even a top six side, don’t rate Tosin or Badiashile enough to take them for a reduced fee, neither player has any business starting for a club with genuine title and Champions League ambitions.”

Should Lacroix arrive, further departures are expected as Chelsea attempt to streamline their squad before the new season begins.

“This Lacroix pursuit was never just about adding a good defender, it’s about finally trimming a centre-back list that’s embarrassingly oversized, and this rejection from Palace just confirmed exactly which names need to go first regardless of what fee Chelsea can actually get for them now.”

Whether Palace’s stance ultimately influences Chelsea’s transfer strategy remains to be seen, but the discussions underline the significant work still required as the club reshapes its squad ahead of the new campaign.
