BREAKING NEWS: Excitement Erupts at Belmore Sports Ground as Canterbury Bulldogs Welcome Back Legendary Terry Lamb in Major Club Move……………

Belmore, NSW – June 23, 2025 – In a move that has sent shockwaves of excitement through the rugby league world, the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have announced the return of club legend Terry Lamb to a prominent role within the organization. The announcement was made earlier today at a packed press conference at the Belmore Sports Ground, drawing the attention of media, fans, and former players alike.

Terry Lamb, affectionately known as “Baa” by fans and peers, has been appointed as the Club Mentor and Cultural Advisor, a newly created role aimed at reinforcing the Bulldogs’ core values, history, and community connections. This comes as part of the club’s strategic push to reclaim its status as one of the NRL’s most respected and competitive teams, both on and off the field.

The 63-year-old Lamb, a Bulldogs icon who played 261 games for the club between 1984 and 1996 and captained the team to its 1995 premiership, returns at a crucial time. The Bulldogs have endured several rebuilding seasons and are currently undergoing a significant transformation under the leadership of head coach Cameron Ciraldo and General Manager Phil Gould.

    “He Bleeds Blue and White”

Speaking at the press conference, Bulldogs CEO Aaron Warburton expressed sheer delight in welcoming Lamb back to Belmore.

    > “There are few figures in rugby league who embody what this club stands for more than Terry Lamb,” Warburton said. “His presence, wisdom, and deep love for the Bulldogs are unmatched. Having him back on board in a formal capacity will strengthen our cultural fabric and inspire both players and staff to uphold the legacy he helped build.”

Lamb’s role will include mentoring younger players, instilling club traditions, attending training sessions, and working alongside the coaching and development staff to guide rising talent through the Bulldogs’ pathways system.

    A Hero’s Return

Addressing a sea of supporters and journalists, Lamb appeared visibly emotional.

    > “This club has always been home,” Lamb said. “When I walk into Belmore, it feels like yesterday I was out there on that field with my teammates. To be asked to return in a role where I can give back and help shape the next generation of Bulldogs means everything to me.”

He continued: “We’ve got some incredible young talent coming through, and I want them to understand what it means to wear this jersey — the pride, the passion, the responsibility. That’s something that can’t be taught from a playbook; it comes from living and breathing the club every day.”

    Player and Fan Reactions

The news has been met with overwhelming approval from current players and fans across social media, many expressing joy and renewed hope for the club’s future.

Bulldogs captain Matt Burton shared his thoughts via Instagram:

    > “Having a legend like Terry Lamb around the club is massive. We’ve all grown up hearing stories about him and what he did for the Bulldogs. To learn directly from him is a huge privilege.”

Longtime fan Susan Kaine, who has supported the club since the 1980s, said: “This is the best news in years. Terry Lamb represents everything good about this club. His return gives us something to believe in again.”

    A Strategic Culture Shift

The Bulldogs’ recent push toward re-establishing a strong cultural identity is evident. The appointment of Lamb follows several community-focused initiatives, including increased engagement with junior rugby league programs and alumni involvement.

Phil Gould, who has known Lamb for decades, said the move was more than symbolic.

    > “Culture wins premierships. And Terry Lamb is the epitome of Bulldogs culture — tough, loyal, team-first, and humble. We want to build a club environment that reflects those values again, and no one can help us do that better than Baa.”

    Looking Ahead

While Lamb has ruled out any coaching ambitions, his influence is expected to be felt across all levels of the club. Sources suggest he will also work with the Bulldogs Foundation to support charitable efforts and community outreach, particularly in Western Sydney.

As the club prepares for a crucial second half of the NRL season, the return of its spiritual leader may just be the spark needed to unite the team and reignite its fan base.

With Terry Lamb back in the fold, one thing is clear — the Bulldogs aren’t just rebuilding a team, they’re restoring a legacy.
