Historical Move: Darren Sproles Donates $12.2 Million to Chris Klieman for New Kansas State Stadium Project

MANHATTAN, Kan. — In a landmark gesture of generosity and school pride, former NFL star and Kansas State football legend Darren Sproles has donated a record-breaking $12.2 million to support a new stadium project spearheaded by current head coach Chris Klieman. The contribution marks one of the largest ever made by a former student-athlete to a college athletics program, solidifying Sproles’ enduring commitment to the future of Kansas State Wildcats football.

The donation will play a pivotal role in the development of a state-of-the-art arena designed to elevate the Wildcats’ home-field experience and bolster recruiting efforts. The project, expected to break ground later this year, promises modernized training facilities, expanded seating capacity, and enhanced amenities for fans and players alike.

“K-State pride lives within me wherever I go,” Sproles said during the official announcement ceremony held at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. “This university shaped my life on and off the field. I’m honored to give back in a way that helps Coach Klieman and this incredible program reach new heights.”

Chris Klieman, visibly moved by the announcement, expressed deep gratitude for Sproles’ unwavering support. “Darren is a legend not just because of his athletic accomplishments, but because of who he is as a person,” Klieman said. “This gift changes the future of our program, and we’re beyond thankful.”

Sproles, who played for K-State from 2001 to 2004 and went on to have a storied NFL career, remains one of the most beloved figures in the university’s history. His 6,812 all-purpose yards at K-State remain unmatched, and his legacy continues to inspire generations of athletes.

University officials confirmed that a portion of the stadium will be named in Sproles’ honor, ensuring his impact is permanently etched into the fabric of Kansas State athletics. The new stadium is projected to be completed by 2027.

This historic donation not only underscores the deep bond between alumni and their alma mater, but also signals a new era of competitiveness and excellence for Kansas State football.

As Sproles put it, “This is home. And I’ll always do what I can to make it better.”
