Much of the pre-draft buzz surrounding the Detroit Lions and the No. 7 overall pick is focused on Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell. He’s a left tackle by trade.
The Lions, of course, already have a very good left tackle in Taylor Decker. That might seem like it could cause some friction, but Decker doesn’t see it that way. He would welcome the team adding Sewell–or any other offensive tackle.
“I mean I’m all for adding anybody that can help the team win,” Decker said. “Take a lineman in the first round. A couple years after me, they took Frank (Ragnow). Frank turns out to be an All-Pro, Pro Bowl guy. He’s one of my best friends. Take all the linemen in the draft. I love it because I’m an offensive lineman and I see a lot of value in that position.”
Decker did acknowledge that he doesn’t watch much college football or pay close attention to the draft. But he’s ready to get some new teammates to help turn around the Lions.
“If we can add talent at any position, wherever it may be, let’s do it,” Decker said.
