JUST Now the report suggesting a deal could cost between £2.6 and £3.5million.

The Belgian outlet reported on its website on Tuesday (21 November) that the Light Blues are interested in the 21-year-old centre-back, with several other clubs including Celtic, Anderlecht and a host of Championship sides monitoring the defender.

One other team interested in signing the Ghanaian defender is Standard Liege, but the Belgian side is unlikely to be able to afford the transfer fee required to tempt Hammarby into parting company with Adjei, with the report suggesting a deal could cost between £2.6 and £3.5million.

Anderlecht are keen to recruit the defender to provide a replacement for Jan Vertonghen and Zeno Debast with Adjei a target because of his ability to cover both at centre-back and full-back.

Philippe Clement has had an excellent start to life in Glasgow, with Rangers going from strength to strength under the management of the Belgian as the Light Blues currently remain unbeaten in both the Scottish Premiership and the Europa League.

But with the January transfer window on the horizon, the Gers are keen to add to their squad in an effort to help Clement in his quest to catch Celtic in the hunt for the Scottish Premiership title and Adjei may present a sensible addition to the side.

The 21-year-old played 21 times for Hammarby in Sweden this season, starting 16 of those matches and his purchase would represent more of a plan for the future, as opposed to an immediate fix to Rangers’ backline straight away in January.

In recent weeks, Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun have impressed at the heart of Clement’s defence, with Ben Davies and John Souttar waiting in the wings for the opportunity to return to the starting XI. It feels as though Rangers would be more keen to invest in attacking areas this January, rather than spend a few million pounds on another defender.
