Southampton have secured the services of assistant manager Colin Calderwood from Northampton Town, both clubs have officially announced.
The experienced manager has been included in Russell Martin’s coaching staff for the remainder of the season as Saints continue their bid for promotion for the first time, after being relegated from the Premier League last season.
The former Mansfield Town, Swindon Town and Tottenham Hotspur defender has a wealth of experience, having managed the likes of Northampton, Nottingham Forest and Cambridge United, but has now moved to the St.
Mary.
In the official statement released by Southampton, director of football Jason Wilcox expressed his delight that the club had achieved such an “invaluable” capture: On the other hand, the chairman of Northampton Town, Kelvin Thomas, admits disappointment at losing Calderwood, but understands the offer was too good for the 58-year-old to refuse [quotes via BBC]: “It’s a shame that Colin decided to leave, but he certainly leaves with our best wishes and as a friend.
