Report: Dallas Cowboys ‘kicking the tires’ on linebacker Shaquille Leonard

    adminBy adminNovember 23, 2023No Comments2 Mins Read

The Dallas Cowboys will take on the Washington Commanders this afternoon, hopefully with your belly full of food, but there is always a lot more going on with the team than the actual games being played.

This week just about every NFL team has had eyes for one particular name and that is linebacker Shaquille Leonard. The Indianapolis Colts surprisingly waived Leonard and he ultimately cleared waivers which means he is now eligible to sign with any team.

Leonard won the 2018 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award over then-Cowboys rookie Leighton Vander Esch, and unfortunately recent news with LVE is that he will not be returning this season for Dallas which opens up a hole on the team at the linebacker position. For what it is worth, the Cowboys are reportedly doing their due diligence.

Dan Quinn approaches the linebacker position in a unique way with the Cowboys as he loves to rotate in safeties like Jayron Kearse and moving Markquese Bell there, as the latter is now playing the position full time. Dallas did bring in Rashaan Evans recently to give them another option in the middle of the group, but as the stretch run of the regular season gets set to begin any and all help is needed.

Leonard is not exactly the player that his name and reputation would suggest in today’s moment, but as mentioned, the Cowboys are in need of help at the position he plays so the math kind of checks out. It makes sense that Dallas would at the very least take a look around to see if everything makes sense for him and them.
