Swindon Town Women: Development Team Update (Nov 2023)

    adminBy adminNovember 9, 2023No Comments2 Mins Read

Head of Women’s Football Mandie Coe provides the following update on the progression of the Swindon Town Women’s Development team It has been a really hectic and exciting start to the season for our newly formed development team With the decision made to combine both our existing development and U18 teams to offer all our talented young players the opportunity to gain experience from a competitive environment and a true pathway into the first team,

they began their campaign with two home fixtures against more experienced sides with their second game against Keynsham Town resulting in a very narrow defeat.

This was followed by, for many of the team, their first taste of the Women’s National League Cup football when they played away to Cambridge A beautiful, warm autumn day on 22nd October gave us the first opportunity to get the team pictures taken and the day ended in our first home, very deserved win against Cheltenham Town Reserves.

At the end of October, this very young team played in the next round of the league cup against a much more experienced AFC Bournemouth which although this resulted in a loss, showed much character as the girls battled until the very last whistle of the game.

The team train in the evenings until late at Foundation Park and although October’s weather has not been kind to us, the team has continued to show real resilience and determination as wind, rain and cold have not deterred them from turning out to complete training with their dedicated coaches.

The team train in the evenings until late at Foundation Park and although October’s weather has not been kind to us, the team has continued to show real resilience and determination as wind, rain and cold have not deterred them from turning out to complete training with their dedicated coaches.

Last weekend’s away fixture was unfortunately cancelled due to Storm Ciaran and a water-logged pitch and we now look forward to another home game against the Exeter City Reserves Development team.

We are expecting yet another challenging game for the girls, but this team of talented young players are always ready to take on the challenge to grow as footballers and as they work towards their ultimate goal of a place in the women’s first team.
